How should I approach this audition?
I'm considering trying-out for my high school play, The Wizard of Oz. It won't be anything like the MGM version, according to the director, so we've got more freedom with it. However, I'm really nervous about auditioning. All we have to do is memorize a short little monologue and perform it. Not hard, really, but I'm scared out of my mind of trying and failing. We had several choices for the monologue, and I've pretty much decided on doing the one for Glinda. Now, I auditioned for the play my freshman year (I'm a junior now) and didn't make it, but it's true that it's harder to get in if you're a freshman, at least at my school. The real problem is that I'm not sure how to approach the monologue in an interesting and fresh direction. Most of the girls trying out will be doing the same piece, as it's the only one by a female that we had to choose from. This is the monologue:

"You are welcome, most noble Sorceress, to the land of the Munchkins. We are so grateful to you for having killed the Wicked Witch of the East, and for setting our people free from bondage. There were only four witches in all the Land of Oz, and two of them, those who live in the North and South, are good witches. I know this is true, for I am one of them myself, and cannot be mistaken. Those who dwelt in the East and West were, indeed, wicked witches; but now that you have killed one of them, there is but one Wicked Witch in all the Land of Oz--the one who lives in the West."

Bad grammar and punctuation aside, I'm not sure how to get the character into my head. Obviously it's not supposed to be the MGM version, as that's not what the director is looking for (and I've never seen the movie anyways), so in rehearsal I've been trying a ditzy 'Wicked' sort of style. But I dunno how that's going to come across, and as I've never done a play before, I'm not sure how much style to put into it without going over the top for auditions.

What this novel is winding down to is how do you think I should approach finding my own Glinda?

First things first: PUSH WICKED OUT OF YOUR MIND. IT NEVER HAPPENED. I do like the musical, BUT since this is The Wizard of Oz (I'm guessing L. Frank Baum's version, which is slightly darker) you need to push it out of your mind. Gone? Good.

Let me try to break apart some pieces:

"There were only four witches in all the Land of Oz, and two of them, those who live in the North and South, are good witches. I know this is true, for I am one of them myself, and cannot be mistaken."

This SCREAMS Mean Girls to me. See how she says she "cannot be mistaken"? It's implying that of COURSE she's wonderful. Duh.

I advise you to take a rather "btchy" tone to Glinda, rather than ditzy. Since the popularity of Wicked, I'm guessing many girls will take a dumb-blonde attitude towards Glinda. And who wants to be one of the pack? A sort of Mean Girls-esque tone would be great.

Wizard of Oz is NOT a comedy, so don't try to make this funny. A little humor is nice, but please don't be a Megan Hilty. It's great for Wicked, but Wicked never existed, right? Right.

This is rather confusing...
My understanding of your question together with my knowledge gleaned elsewhere, leads me to this response;
A pithy maxim would be such is under the law of the rulers of this earth, for those who choose to live in this world.
When we choose to realize there is more to life than what we see and hear, we then can rise above and maintain our alignment with the Lord God. We will find rest in Him and maintain true inner peace to stabilize and protect us from the world and all it's "drama".
We put on and wear the "Light" of the Lord God and become invisible warriors with spiritual warfare.
